COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis course covers a full year. A half credit may be earned at the end of each semester. Tenth grade English is a two semester required course that integrates literature, writing, mechanics, listening, speaking, and thinking. The student will spend time reading, analyzing, and discussing major works of literature, such as MacBeth, A Raisin in the Sun, and Double Indemnity. The student will perfect usage/mechanics skills through writing activities, and expand vocabulary through weekly exercises. Students will also working in preparation for the MCAII Reading Exam.
TextbookThe Glencoe Literature Course Five textbook, will be used for this full year course, required of all sophomores.

- “Disturbia” (Used for comparison/contrast essay for the novel Double Indemnity)

ASSESSMENTAssessment is based on the following areas:
- Class participation

Late Essays: All assigned essays must be turned in for a student to receive a grade in this class. All assigned essays are due at the beginning of class, on the due date. Students will be docked 20 points for each day the essay is late. Even if a student has an excused absence, he/she must email the essay to me or have someone bring it to me on the due date. Students should make a copy of the essay for their own records.
